Description: This course covers basic principles of scientific psychology, including coverage of history and systems of psychology (the historical development and progression of scientific theories in psychology), the scientific method, and research methods. Additionally, this course includes coverage of biological bases of behavior (brain and nervous system structure, function, and effects on individual behavior and mental processes), sensation and perception (anatomy and function of sensory systems such as the visual system), learning and memory, intelligence, cognition, motivation, and emotion. Each of these topics will be discussed with respect to the application of the scientific method to the study of each topic and research findings relevant to contemporary understanding of human behavior and mental processes.
